STEM Clubs at BB&N

The Upper School hosts a wide range of clubs. Let’s explore some of the STEM clubs that BB&N has to offer!

GAINS (Girls Advancing in STEM)

If you are a female-identifying student who is interested in STEM, this is the place for you! This activity-based club creates a space for girls to collaboratively explore fun science experiments and activities. In the past, they have made borax snowflakes, slime, holographic chocolate, and many other cool creations. One to two times per trimester, the club invites female speakers to share about their experiences and careers in STEM. They also attend the annual GAINS conference, where BB&N students can connect with GAINS members from all over the country. Although there will not be a conference this year, the club hopes to organize some field trips. Overall, GAINS is an awesome space for girls to connect and bond over STEM.

Medical Club

Future doctors and Grey’s Anatomy fans, get ready! With a focus on collaborative, hands-on activities, Medical Club fosters a community for students interested in the medical field and STEM. Whether you know exactly what career path you might be interested in or you are still figuring it out, this club is a space where you can discover new interests in the world of medicine and science. They have engaged in fun activities such as the suturing workshop with GAINS and the bubble lab in conjunction with the 9th grade cell unit! After last year’s successful trial, Medical Club will continue to run its CPR certification program to educate and promote awareness of emergency first aid.

Science Olympiad Club

Time to put your science knowledge to the test! With the Science Olympiad club, you can push yourself beyond your classwork and represent BB&N in high school competitions. Students will build their knowledge and teamwork skills while engaging in events spanning biology, chemistry, physics, earth science, and engineering. At competitions, participants engage in two to four partner events in activities ranging from written tests, labs, and building devices. During meetings, club members prepare by studying content and completing activities to make sure everyone is feeling well-prepared. The team plans to compete at the Massachusetts High School State Science Olympiad and hopes to enter other events, including the Harvard Science Olympiad Competition and the F=ma competition. If you’re ready to compete, join the Science Olympiad Club!

Engineering Club

Get ready to tackle some challenges at the Engineering Club! This club focuses on solving practical problems with creative solutions and collaboration. Students explore a range of engineering fields through activities like building bridges, designing mini motor-powered cars, competitively building roller coasters, and even making chemical popping boba! This year, the club will undertake an environmental project that targets local sustainability issues. Members can apply their engineering knowledge to this real-world challenge and make an impact in their community. The club also plans to launch an online interscholastic science fair to foster collaboration and creativity in STEM across a larger community. With Engineering Club, you can make connections with other problem solvers and leave a lasting impact on your community!
