Interview with Ms. Simon

Learn about a new BB&N Math teacher!

What did you do before you came to BB&N?

Before this I was teaching math at Lexington Highschool, and before that I was teaching at Malden Highschool as a long term substitute teacher.

How are your new BB&N classes going so far?

They [the classes] are going really well. I like the small size classes. I am able to form closer relationships with the students and provide more individual care for them.

Is there something that you are looking forward to?

I am looking forward to doing more projects. I feel like with these class sizes and the timings that we have, there is more time to try new things and explore.

Why did you choose to teach?

I chose to teach because math is one of those subjects that has a bad reputation. I wanted to make math accessible and applicable for all– whether that is through explorations [or] investigations.

Why did you choose to teach math in particular?

I chose math because I like the problem solving aspect behind it and more specifically Computer Science as well for that same reason. I also liked to do puzzles whether it was jig-saw puzzles or sudoku, and so I liked the problem-solving and the mystery aspect behind math. I also liked the comfort behind knowing that there is always a solution for many of these things. It is like you are building towards something. Which is cool.

Can you tell us a fun fact about yourself?

It is my goal to hit every coffee shop in the Boston area (specifically every coffee chain.)
