2: Inception

Directed by Christopher Nolan, Inception continuously makes you question whether the characters on the screen are in a dream. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) can travel into dreams and control your subconscious. Doing this allows him to read your thoughts and implant ideas into your mind (inception!). At times, the movie can be confusing (especially when traveling into dreams within dreams), but it is very rewarding once you watch the entire movie and figure it all out. The cliffhanger at the end is annoying but clever and leaves you rethinking everything that happened in the movie (4).

1: Interstellar

Another Christopher Nolan film, Interstellar, involves a complex and science-filled plot, several “Ohhh, now it makes sense!” moments, a beautiful soundtrack, and stunning visuals. A pilot, Cooper (Matthew McConaughey), is recruited by NASA to go on a critical mission to save the dying Earth. After some space travel and complications with time, Cooper discovers the truth behind everything he has experienced. Interstellar questions the nature of time and how different timelines can affect each other. The satisfying ending leaves you with a whole new appreciation for those around you and your way of life (5).
