The Cambridge Science Festival

A Fun, Free, Local Way to Engage in STEM Activities

The Cambridge Science Festival is a weeklong celebration of all things related to STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) held annually in Cambridge (1). The festival was founded in 2007 with support from MIT, Harvard, the City of Cambridge, and other members of the Greater Boston scientific community (1).  It has become very popular over the last few years, attracting over 50,000 visitors and offering over 300 programs. It includes opportunities for community members of all ages to explore STEAM (1).  The 2024 festival took place during the last week of September, and highlights included a “For the Win” series of games and puzzles and a space program called “Frontiers: A New Era of Space Exploration” (2).  This year, games like chess, VR / digital competitions, and card games will be featured. On the last day, the festival culminated with a carnival outside the MIT Museum, where children and adults visited over 100 booths of free scientific attractions (2). The event is free, family-friendly, and intends to make STEAM accessible to all. It will be back in 2025, so look out for updates.
